Volvo Construction has announced engine and electronic upgrades to its L110H and L120H mid-size wheel loaders.
“I think every owner and operator will notice and appreciate the upgraded performance and efficiency,” says Chris Connolly, product manager for mid-size wheel loaders at Volvo CE. “They are popular models for a reason, and now they’re even better.”
Engine upgrades
Both models feature the new automatically regenerating Volvo D8M 8-liter engine, capable of up to 256 hp on the L110H and up to 272 hp on the L120H. The engine has a new electric pump for priming the fuel system for a quicker start than the old manual pump. New captive fuel filters help to keep the engine clean according to Volvo, making good water separation and extending engine service intervals to 1,000 hours.

The new loaders have a new ignition strategy included for ease of operation. The ignition key activates and powers the machine without turning on the ground-level main switch at the start of use. This function also stops the battery dying overnight if the main switch was accidentally left on. This feature includes a lockout-tagout to make it easier to lock the battery disconnect switch in the off position to prevent issues while working on maintenance.
These models are the first in Volvo’s mid-size range to come standard with the next-generation Co-Pilot tablet display, and on-board weighing. The Co-Pilot’s screen is larger and higher resolution than previous versions, and will display Load Assist information such as operator coaching, tire pressure monitoring, and on-board weighing.
These models include high-definition camera feeds, warning sounds for safety, and radar detect and collision mitigation systems. The display also connects with smartphones for hands-free calling and audio playback.
Bucket capacity
Both models have 3.4 to 12.4 cubic yards of bucket capacity, with breakout for the 110H at 36,210 pound-force, and the 120H at 39,010 pound-force. The loaders are compatible with a range of Volvo Construction’s attachments including 15 different buckets, various forks, grapples, a material handling arm, plows, and sweepers.
Availability
The updated Volvo Construction mid-size wheel loaders are currently in production and will be available later this summer. For more information about the 110H and 120H, visit the company’s website.
